AMERICAN IDOL RECAP: Top 3 Perform / Top 3 Results (5/16/2012 & 5/17/2012)

May 18, 2012  |

Pop Hunter is re-capping the grotesque display of culture that is American Idol all season. Here’s what you need to know from this week’s round, which aired May 16th and May 17th.

Andy Samberg (as Shy Ronnie) and Pharrell Williams joined Santigold on stage last night in New York City

May 15, 2012  |

At Irving Plaza in New York City last night, Santigold welcomed some special guests on stage with her, including Pharrell Williams who jumped up to play drums on “My Drive Thru,” a song featuring N.E.R.D. and produced by Pharrell. The real show-stopper, however, was when Santigold announced that one of her fans wanted a chance to audition to be a backup dancer. That’s when the ginger-mopped Shy Ronnie timidly walked on stage in a rainbow sweater, ready to strut his stuff to the song “Fame,” a new song from Santigold’s new record Master Of My Makebelieve.

May 14, 2012  |

If you spent Saturday night out on the town, socializing with other humans like a sucker, then you missed one hell of an SNL. Host Will Ferrell brought back one of his iconic characters, including the Culps, who seriously lamed out the latest and greatest hits at an LGBT prom, among them “Rumour Has It,” “Super Bass” and Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend.”

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP: California Dreamin’ / Songs They Wish They’d Written (5/9/2012 & 5/10/2012)

May 11, 2012  |

There are four contestants left, which means Idol producers are more and more struggling to fill a two hour time-slot, with under-rehearsed duets, built-in extended commercials for Rock Of Ages, and the redundant ramblings of Idol spirit-guide Steven Tyler. How many ways can Stevie T take 45 seconds to say “I liked it” in one show?

Why was Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend” performance on The Voice so terrible?

May 9, 2012  |

Before Carson Daly could even mention his name, screams echoed through the studio, and the lights came up on a fog-laden stage. Somewhere, Scooter Braun whispered into a walkie-talkie: “Commence phase 3 of the JB maturation sequence.”

Enjoy a preview of a new No Doubt song, produced by Major Lazer

May 9, 2012  |

No Doubt are officially returning to the pop music world on September 25th, with their first album since 2001′s Rock Steady. The album is yet to be titled, but promised to share lots of photos, videos, and updates as the band finishes working on their triumphant return. The first video they have shared gives us a peak inside the studio, as we witness the recording of a song called “Push & Shove,” the much-hyped collaboration between No Doubt and Major Lazer.

The Pepsi-Cola Curse: Will Nicki Minaj’s Endorsement Break The Cycle?

May 8, 2012  |

Yesterday, we finally got to see Pepsi’s Nicki Minaj commercial, a minute-and-a-half 3D clip for Pepsi’s “Live For Now” campaign. The ad re-tools Minaj’s hit “Moment 4 Life,” following a sugar-drunk couple as they explore their newfound ability to stop time with one sip of that sweet nectar. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a smidge worried about Nicki Minaj’s big money cola endorsement. More often than not, the Pepsi-Cola curse results in either a negative impact on the company or on the endorser.

Watch Rihanna perform on SNL

May 7, 2012  |

It might have been the influence of Saturday’s extreme super moon, but Rihanna gave two very saucy performances on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Rihanna made sure everyone knew what she meant by cake, tapping her crotch roughly 164 times.

AMERICAN IDOL RECAP: British Invasion & 1960s Week (5/2/2012 & 5/3/2012)

This week on idol it was down to 5. I honestly can’t remember that many contestants prior to the final 10 or 12, and I suppose that’s the point. The opening pre-credits segment of every Thursday episode now grows incrementally more saccharine and dramatic, as if all the contestants have terminal diseases or something.
