Yesterday, Alicia Keys revealed a new song from her still-untitled follow-up to 2009′s The Element Of Freedom, showing a decidedly upbeat side that we rarely see from the queen of sad piano ballads.

“New Day” is produced by her husband Swizz Beats, and it’s a reflection of Keys’ new-found positive outlook on life. In a video posted to her YouTube account, Alicia talks about how family and being a mother has had a profound impact on her new music, and she’s incredibly excited to share it with the world.

Swizz Beats’ signature crisp drum programming and Alicia’s empowering lyrics make for an exciting musical union on “New Day.” It turns out that Alicia Keys can do motivational upbeat pop just as well as she does beautiful, depressing piano ballads.
